ANANTNAG, JULY 12, 2026 — Following a devastating cloudburst that struck the Sallar region of Pahalgam, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Anantnag, Vikas Ahlawat, conducted an extensive field visit to Awoora and neighboring affected localities today. The high-level visit was aimed at directly evaluating the structural and environmental damage left in the wake of the extreme weather event, as well as fast-tracking the multi-departmental emergency relief operations already underway. Accompanying the Additional Deputy Commissioner during the inspection were Tehsildar Sallar alongside a specialized team of engineers and senior officials representing the Jal Shakti, Roads and Buildings (R&B), and Power Development Departments (PDD).
During the comprehensive on-site evaluation, Ahlawat scrutinized the structural integrity of compromised public infrastructure, blocked thoroughfares, and damaged residential sectors. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the administration issued strict directives to all line departments to accelerate the clearance of heavy debris and prioritize the immediate revival of vital public utilities. While interacting directly with the impacted residents to address their immediate grievances, Ahlawat mandated that field teams provide exhaustive logistical and humanitarian aid to displaced families. Emphasizing that inter-departmental synergy is crucial during disaster response, the administration underscored that water supply networks, road connectivity, and electrical grids must be fully operational with minimal delay to alleviate public distress. Currently, a robust deployment of heavy machinery and emergency personnel remains active on ground zero to stabilize the region.
