Handwara Police Demolish Illegal Property of Notorious Drug Accused in Langate
HANDWARA, May 11, 2026 — As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, police in Handwara carried out a decisive demolition of illegally constructed property belonging to a notorious drug smuggler in Langate. The structures, which included two shops and two residential rooms, belonged to Ab Rehman Bhat, an accused individual involved in a significant narcotics case (FIR No. 394/2017) under the NDPS Act. Authorities confirmed that the buildings were raised illegally on Kahcharie land and were linked to the infrastructure supporting local drug networks.
The operation was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and senior officials following the completion of all necessary legal protocols. This crackdown is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the financial and physical ecosystem of drug trafficking by targeting the assets of known offenders. Reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free society, the police emphasized that aggressive actions against anti-social elements will continue, and they urged the public to provide information to help protect the younger generation from the menace of substance abuse.
