Bhagwant Mann offers prayers at Gurudwara Sri Jyotisar Sahib and hails new anti-sacrilege law

SANGRUR, May 11, 2026 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid obeisance at the historic Gurudwara Sri Jyotisar Sahib (Chhevin Patshahi) today, participating in the Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path Sahib.

During his visit to this sacred site dedicated to the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind, the Chief Minister expressed deep gratitude for the successful enactment of the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.

This legislative milestone, which Mann described as a service to the faith, introduces rigorous penalties—including life imprisonment—for those found guilty of sacrilege against the holy scriptures. The Chief Minister noted that the new law is designed to act as a permanent deterrent against heinous acts of desecration, closing previous legal loopholes that allowed perpetrators to evade justice. He emphasized that protecting the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is a collective responsibility and a priority for the state government.

By ensuring exemplary punishment, the administration aims to thwart conspiracies intended to disturb the peace and communal harmony of Punjab.

During his visit, Mann offered prayers for the prosperity and “Chardikala” of Punjab, invoking the spirit of “Sarbat da Bhala” or the welfare of all humanity. He reiterated his government’s commitment to restoring the state’s past glory and transforming it into “Rangla Punjab.”

The Chief Minister remarked that seeking blessings at such a spiritual location provides the strength needed to serve the people and uphold justice across the region.

The visit to Gurudwara Sri Jyotisar Sahib is part of a broader series of religious interactions where the Chief Minister has engaged with the public to discuss governance and spiritual values.

He concluded his visit by praying for continued divine grace upon the people of Punjab, stressing that the state will remain a beacon of peace, unity, and religious respect under the current leadership.
