IOS Sagar Departs Chattogram Following Successful Maritime Engagement in Bangladesh

CHATTOGRAM, BANGLADESH — May 11, 2026 :- Marking a significant milestone in regional maritime cooperation, the IOS Sagar officially departed from Chattogram on May 10, 2026, after completing a highly successful port call. The vessel is now en route to Colombo, Sri Lanka, leaving behind a trail of strengthened diplomatic ties and enhanced professional synergy between the participating international crew and the Bangladesh Navy (BN). The departure was honored with a grand ceremonial send-off by the BN, signaling a smooth transition from shore-based diplomacy to tactical operations at sea.

During the stay, the Commanding Officer of IOS Sagar led high-level diplomatic discussions with key naval leadership, including COMBAN and COMCHIT, to reinforce shared security objectives in the Indian Ocean. A highlight of the visit was the “Helo Deck Diplomacy” event, where a Grand Deck Reception brought together officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and local community leaders. This spirit of camaraderie extended to the Bangladesh Naval Academy, where crews exchanged best practices with future naval leaders, and even onto the sports field for a friendly football match against local hosts.

The engagement culminated in a high-intensity Passage Exercise (PASSEX) as IOS Sagar cleared the harbor. Operating alongside BNS Prottoy and Bangladesh Navy air assets, the ships executed complex surface maneuvers and coordinated maritime drills. These exercises were designed to test and prove seamless interoperability between the forces. Currently carrying a multinational contingent representing 16 partner nations, IOS Sagar continues its mission toward Sri Lanka, bolstered by the momentum of its strategic stopover in Bangladesh.
