Amritsar Police Bust Cross Border Drug Cartel with 7kg Heroin Seizure

AMRITSAR, April 21, 2026 — The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a major cross-border narcotics smuggling operation, resulting in the arrest of five individuals.

During the targeted operation, law enforcement officials recovered 7.050 kg of heroin. This crackdown represents a significant blow to the illegal drug trade operating within the region.

Initial investigations conducted by the authorities suggest that the suspects were maintaining direct contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan.

The accused were allegedly operating under specific instructions from across the border to facilitate the distribution of narcotics throughout various districts of Punjab.

Police are currently working to identify the broader network of associates involved in this international ring.In response to the arrests and seizure, two separate First Information Reports have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Chheharta and Cantonment police stations in Amritsar.

Investigative teams are now focusing on establishing both forward and backward linkages to uncover the entirety of the smuggling chain. The Punjab Police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug trafficking to ensure the safety and security of the state.
