Udhampur Police Secure 10 Year Sentence for Two Inter State Drug Peddlers in NDPS Case
UDHAMPUR, April 19, 2026:- Udhampur Police have successfully secured a major conviction against two inter-state drug peddlers following a significant narcotics seizure dating back to 2020.
The case originated on September 9, 2020, when a police team at a checkpoint near the Motor Shed on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway intercepted a Mahindra Bolero traveling from Srinagar. Although the vehicle appeared to be carrying a routine shipment of apple boxes, a meticulous inspection by officers revealed a sophisticated concealed cabin.
From this hidden compartment, authorities recovered 10 plastic bags containing approximately 175 kilograms of poppy straw, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects and the filing of FIR No. 97/2020 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chenani.
Following a comprehensive investigation and a prompt filing of the charge-sheet, the legal proceedings concluded before the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Udhampur.
The court found both Jaspreet Singh, son of Nichhatar Singh, and Sandeep Singh, son of Chamkar Singh—both residents of Ludhiana—guilty of drug trafficking under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
Highlighting the severity of the offense, the judge sentenced each individual to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each convict.
The ruling further specified that if the fine is not paid, the individuals must undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
This conviction marks a significant milestone for local law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to dismantle inter-state drug networks and enforce strict legal consequences for narcotics smuggling.
