ASI Celebrates World Heritage Day 2026 at Naranag Ancient Temples
NARANAG, Kashmir, April 19,2026 :- The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Srinagar Circle marked World Heritage Day on April 18, 2026, by hosting a series of cultural and educational events at the Ancient Temples of Naranag in Ganderbal district.
The celebration focused on fostering community participation and raising awareness about the preservation of Kashmir’s rich architectural legacy. Ahsan Pardasi, MLA, attended as the chief guest, joined by Mohammad Younis Tokhar, Tehsildar Kangan Mubashir Ahmad, and the Assistant Commanding Officer of the Indian Army at Wangath.
The event saw a high turnout of students from the local Middle School and Degree College Kangan, highlighting the importance of youth involvement in heritage conservation.
To engage the younger generation, the ASI organized a drawing competition, a quiz, and a debate centered on the global theme of heritage protection.
Attendees also explored a detailed photo exhibition featuring India’s World Heritage Monuments and a specialized gallery showcasing the recent conservation projects and archival records managed by the Srinagar Circle.
A key highlight of the celebration was the official release of a new booklet dedicated to the Ancient Monuments of Naranag. This publication provides an in-depth look at the site’s historical and architectural significance, aiming to boost local tourism and academic interest.
By combining educational outreach with onsite activities, the ASI underscored its commitment to safeguarding Kashmir’s historical landmarks for future generations.
