Navy Helicopter Crew Rescues Oil Rig Worker Near Kochi After Heart Scare
Kochi, April 15, 2026 :- The Indian Navy successfully evacuated a crew member from an offshore oil platform early Wednesday morning following reports of a medical crisis.
The mission focused on a 42-year-old worker stationed on the Greatdrill Chhaya rig, located approximately 110 kilometers into the sea from the Kochi coastline. Officials confirmed that the individual began experiencing symptoms of cardiac distress, prompting an immediate call for specialized aerial assistance to move him to a mainland hospital.
An Advanced Light Helicopter assigned to the Southern Naval Command’s Garuda station launched at first light to reach the remote location. Upon arriving at the rig, the naval medical team stabilized the patient before airlifting him back to Kochi for urgent treatment.
This operation highlights the critical role of naval aviation in maintaining safety for industrial workers in deep-sea environments, where rapid response times are essential for survival during cardiac emergencies.
