Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module with Links to Pakistan
AMRITSAR, April 8, 2026 — In a significant blow to organized crime and anti-national activities, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, resulting in the apprehension of three suspects and one juvenile.
During the operation, security forces recovered seven sophisticated pistols, 12 live cartridges, and a motorcycle used in the illicit trade. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were utilizing social media platforms to maintain contact with Pakistan-based smugglers to facilitate the transport of weaponry into India via the Attari border sector.
These consignments were typically retrieved from pre-designated drop points before being distributed to local criminal networks throughout Punjab. Following the bust, an FIR has been registered at Police Station Chheharta under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and an active investigation is currently underway to identify forward and backward linkages to completely dismantle the smuggling network.
This successful operation underscores the Punjab Police’s ongoing commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against arms trafficking and organized crime to ensure the continued safety and security of the state.
