West Asia Crisis: Vikramjit Singh Evaluates Impact on J&K Industries; Ensures Support for MSMEs

JAMMU, April 04, 2026: In response to the evolving geopolitical situation, Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Vikramjit Singh, chaired a high-level meeting with major industrial and trade associations to assess the impact of the West Asia crisis on the Union Territory’s economy.

Acknowledging a temporary mismatch in energy supply and demand caused by the crisis, Singh assured stakeholders that the Central Government is actively tapping into alternate energy sources to stabilize the situation.

To streamline local logistics, District Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with coordinating directly with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), while the department plans to collaborate with the Railways to ensure the seamless transportation of horticulture produce and finished goods.

During the deliberations, the Commissioner Secretary issued a series of directives aimed at safeguarding the industrial sector, specifically ordering the priority release of pending payments to MSMEs to maintain liquidity.

He cautioned against rumor-mongering and black marketing, warning of strict action against any such malpractices during the crisis.

Addressing the welfare of the workforce, Singh emphasized that industrial units must ensure wages for laborers in the services and industrial sectors are not delayed.

Furthermore, the government is expediting piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure development and engaging with the UTLBC to facilitate credit and capital assistance for local units, reinforcing a commitment to manage the situation through strategic innovation rather than panic.
