J&K Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Lashes Jammu and Kashmir; Rajouri and Batote Record Highest Precipitation
SRINAGAR April 4, 2026 — Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Jammu and Kashmir over the last 24 hours, significantly impacting daily life and cooling temperatures across the union territory.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather for the period ending at 8:30 a.m. today, the Jammu region experienced the most intense activity, with Rajouri recording a staggering 61.0 mm of rainfall, followed closely by Batote at 53.8 mm and Poonch at 45.5 mm. Other major areas in the region, including Katra (32.2 mm), Udhampur (31.7 mm), and Reasi (34.5 mm), also saw substantial downpours, while Jammu city and its airport recorded 14.4 mm and 7.2 mm respectively.
In the Kashmir Valley, the weather remained consistently wet, with Nowgam Handwara and Baramulla leading the figures at 45.6 mm and 45.5 mm respectively.
The summer capital, Srinagar, recorded 25.1 mm, while the Srinagar Airport station observed 29.2 mm. High-altitude locations and tourist hubs also saw significant moisture, with Gulmarg receiving 32.2 mm, Lolab 42.2 mm, and Bumhama Kupwara 38.6 mm.
While the twin regions of Jammu and Kashmir dealt with heavy precipitation, the Ladakh region remained largely dry, with Leh recording no rainfall during this 24-hour window, highlighting a sharp climatic contrast across the territory.
