GMC Anantnag Upgrades Healthcare: Sakina Itoo Inaugurates MRI Unit and Advanced Modular OTs

ANANTNAG, April 3, 2026 — In a landmark development for healthcare in South Kashmir, the Minister for Health and Medical Education, School and Higher Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art MRI Unit at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag today.

With this installation, GMC Anantnag distinguishes itself as the first among the newly established medical colleges in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to house such advanced diagnostic technology, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local population.

Alongside the MRI facility, the Minister also dedicated three high-tech modular operation theaters and a sophisticated vitrectomy machine for advanced eye surgeries to the public. GMC Anantnag Principal, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, expressed her gratitude to the government for its unwavering support, noting that these facilities will provide specialized medical care at the doorsteps of residents across the South Kashmir and Pir Panjal regions, significantly reducing the need for travel to tertiary care centers.
