J&K Lieutenant Governor Grants Assent to Three Key Legislative Bills During 2026 Budget Session

JAMMU, APRIL 02, 2026: During the ongoing proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Secretary Manoj Kumar Pandit officially informed the House that the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has granted assent to three significant bills previously passed by the Assembly.

According to the formal announcement made on the floor of the House, the bills received the Lieutenant Governor’s approval on March 31, 2026. These legislative measures include The Jammu and Kashmir Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 (L.A. Bill No. 1), which aims to streamline ease of living and doing business, and The Jammu and Kashmir Eliminating Discrimination Against Persons Affected by Leprosy Bill, 2026 (L.A. Bill No. 2), a progressive step toward protecting the civil rights of vulnerable citizens.

Additionally, the Secretary confirmed the enactment of the Jammu and Kashmir State Civil Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (L.A. Bill No. 3), which seeks to modernize judicial procedures within the Union Territory.

By reading out the formal communication, the Secretary finalized the legislative journey of these acts, signaling their transition into law.
