J&K Government Relieves IPS Officer Nikhil Borkar for Central Assignment​

Srinagar, April 02: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday officially relieved a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Union Territory to enable him to take up a new posting with the Government of India.

According to an official order issued by the Home Department (No. 198-Home of 2026), Nikhil Borkar (IPS, AGMUT:2017) has been relieved of his duties in J&K with effect from the afternoon of April 02, 2026.​The move follows a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and received the necessary approval from the Competent Authority.

The directive, issued by order of the Lieutenant Governor and signed by Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti, marks the transition of the 2017-batch officer from the UT cadre to a central assignment.
