Divisional Commissioner Reviews Readiness for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026; Orders Timely Infrastructure and Safety Measures
SRINAGAR, APRIL 01, 2026: In a major push to ensure a seamless and secure pilgrimage for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to finalize comprehensive arrangements for the Holy Cave journey.
Attended by Deputy Commissioners from key districts including Anantnag and Ganderbal, along with top officials from the Police, SASB, BRO, and various civic departments, the meeting focused on a multi-sectoral approach to handle the massive influx of devotees.
The Divisional Commissioner assessed departmental proposals under both Revenue and Capital Expenditure (Capex) heads, with a particular focus on the timely execution of road repairs, track widening by BEACON, and the rapid restoration of helipads and base camp infrastructure.
Safety and disaster preparedness emerged as central themes, with specific directives issued to the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department to expedite the macadamization of access roads and the development of parking facilities.
Highlighting the importance of pilgrim safety, the Divisional Commissioner instructed that all tentage and camping facilities along the Pahalgam and Baltal axes be situated in secure, non-vulnerable zones, adhering to strict fire safety protocols and aesthetics.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag was specifically tasked with coordinating resource pooling and conducting flood-zone assessments to mitigate risks during the pilgrimage. To ensure a comfortable experience, the administration is prioritizing robust sanitation, healthcare expansion with increased ambulance deployment, and 24/7 fire safety coverage at all transit points.
Communication and logistics are also being overhauled for the 2026 season, with private and state telecom providers—including Jio, Airtel, and BSNL—instructed to guarantee uninterrupted network coverage to support essential RFID-based tracking systems.
Furthermore, the Divisional Commissioner underscored the need for advance registration of both yatris and service providers, alongside the provision of RTC buses and clear signage for transit.
With the deployment of public address systems and real-time weather updates from the IMD, the administration aims to transform the annual pilgrimage into a well-coordinated “people’s movement,” ensuring that every aspect from healthcare to disaster management is fortified well before the official commencement.
