Chief Election Commissioner Briefs 282 Central Observers Ahead of Assembly Elections in Assam, Kerala, and PuducherryN
EW DELHI, April 1, 2026 — Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, chaired a high-level briefing today for 282 Central Observers deployed for the upcoming Assembly Elections.
The session, attended by the Chief Electoral Officers of Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, targeted the smooth execution of polls scheduled for April 9, 2026.
The contingent of officials includes 119 General Observers, 56 Police Observers, and 107 Expenditure Observers, who will be stationed across 126 Assembly Constituencies in Assam, 140 in Kerala, and 30 in Puducherry to oversee the electoral process.
During the briefing, the Commission issued strict instructions to the observers to ensure that the elections are conducted in a festive spirit while remaining strictly free and fair.
The leadership emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward intimidation, violence, or any form of inducement, reinforcing the need for impartial oversight.
Furthermore, the Commission highlighted the mandatory and rigorous enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct across all poll-bound regions.
By coordinating with expenditure and police specialists, the Election Commission aims to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process and ensure a secure environment for voters in all three states and union territories.
