J&K Weather Alert: Erratic Conditions to Persist Until April 10; Heavy Rain and Snow Forecasted
SRINAGAR, April 1, 2026 — The Meteorological (MET) Centre Srinagar has issued a comprehensive weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a prolonged period of erratic weather conditions expected to last until April 10.
While the first two days of April may see only brief spells of light rain or snow in isolated pockets during the late afternoon, a significant weather system is set to move in by April 3.
Forecasters warn of intermittent light to moderate rain and snow across many areas, with the possibility of intense thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds peaking from the afternoon of April 3 through the evening of April 4.
Isolated locations in the higher reaches of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions are likely to experience moderate to heavy snowfall during this window.
Following a brief relative letup on April 5 and 6—characterized by partly cloudy skies and scattered light rain—a fresh western disturbance is anticipated to trigger new spells of light to moderate rain and snow from April 7 to 9.
In light of these volatile conditions, authorities have issued a high-alert advisory citing potential wind speeds of 40–50 km/h on April 3 and 4. Residents in vulnerable zones are cautioned against landslides and shooting stones, while those in low-lying areas should prepare for localized waterlogging.
Farmers are specifically advised to suspend all agricultural operations during the peak activity on April 3 and 4, while travelers and transporters are urged to strictly monitor official traffic advisories before planning any movement across the region’s highways.
