J&K Budget Session 2026: Satish Sharma Assures Adequate Petroleum Stocks and Warns Against Hoarding
JAMMU, MARCH 31: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly today that Jammu and Kashmir maintains a sufficient and stable supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Legislator Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami during the Budget Session 2026, the Minister addressed concerns regarding temporary spikes in demand caused by geopolitical tensions and panic buying.
He emphasized that daily reports from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) confirm that stocks are adequate at both the outlet and bulk levels. Urging the public to ignore unfounded rumors of shortages, the Minister assured the House that the government is closely monitoring the entire supply chain to ensure uninterrupted distribution across the Union Territory.
To curb unfair trade practices, the Minister detailed a massive enforcement drive currently underway, with Divisional and District Level Control Rooms fully operational.
Since March 17, 2026, the department has conducted 3,442 inspections and raids, resulting in several FIRs, the seizure of 252 items, and the redressal of 2,443 grievances. Under the supervision of District Level Committees headed by Deputy Commissioners, field functionaries are carrying out surprise visits to prevent hoarding and black marketing.
Minister Sharma highlighted that strict punitive actions, including heavy fines and penalties, are being imposed on violators. Furthermore, the government has intensified its public outreach, conducting 36 media briefings and community interactions since mid-March to maintain transparency and prevent panic among consumers.
