Shopian Drug Bust: J&K Police Arrest Peddler and Seize Heroin in Major Anti-Narcotics Operation
SHOPIAN, March 31, 2026 — In a continued crackdown on the narcotics trade under its mission to eradicate drug abuse, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered a significant quantity of contraband in Shopian.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team from the Shopian Police Station intercepted a load carrier, registered as JK13D-4373, during its journey from Dashipora toward the town. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 5.61 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin in the possession of Umar Aijaz Itoo, a resident of Narsinghpora, Kulgam.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, and the vehicle used for transporting the illicit substance was seized by authorities. Following the arrest, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 43/2026 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with investigators now working to trace the forward and backward linkages of the operation to dismantle the broader drug network.
