Assam Rifles Honors Braveheart Rifleman Til Bahadur Gurung with Solemn Wreath-Laying Ceremony

CHANGLANG, March 31, 2026 — The Changlang Battalion of the Assam Rifles organized a poignant wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to the late Rifleman Til Bahadur Gurung, SC, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty exactly 75 years ago.

On March 30, 1951, Rfn Gurung displayed gallantry of the highest order while combating insurgents at Kamru, Nagaland. His unwavering bravery during the operation earned him the prestigious Shaurya Chakra (SC), cementing his legacy as a hero who stood firm in the face of adversity to protect the nation’s integrity.

The commemorative event began with the Commandant of the unit laying a ceremonial wreath at the war memorial, a symbolic gesture of respect for the fallen soldier’s ultimate sacrifice.

Addressing the gathered troops of all ranks, the Commandant recounted the inspiring story of Rfn Til Bahadur Gurung, emphasizing his exceptional courage and selfless devotion to duty.

The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the rich heritage of the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” reinforcing the battalion’s commitment to upholding the values of valor and sacrifice exemplified by their predecessors.
