CJI Inaugurates Modern District Court Complex and LLSA Building in Leh
LEH, March 28, 2026 — Marking a transformative milestone for the judicial landscape of Ladakh, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, officially inaugurated the newly constructed District Court Complex and the Ladakh Legal Services Authority (LLSA) building at Melong Thang today.
The high-profile ceremony was held in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, and the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli. Upon his arrival, the Chief Justice of India was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour followed by a vibrant cultural performance reflecting Ladakh’s rich heritage.
The event featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a comprehensive 3D presentation detailing the state-of-the-art architectural design, which includes modern courtrooms, administrative blocks, and residential quarters built at an estimated cost of ₹54.85 crore.
During the proceedings, the dignitaries also participated in a symbolic plantation drive at the new ₹5.70 crore LLSA building, emphasizing environmental sustainability alongside infrastructural growth.
In an interaction with local media, Chief Justice Surya Kant expressed his immense satisfaction with the new facilities, noting that they are designed to serve the people of Leh for generations by significantly enhancing access to legal services.
He further announced that his visit would include the upcoming inauguration of a similar District Court Complex in Kargil.
Attended by top officials including the Chief Secretary, DGP Ladakh, and the GOC 14 Corps, the inauguration underscores a renewed commitment to strengthening the rule of law and judicial efficiency in the Union Territory through world-class infrastructure.
