LG Ladakh Announces Ex-Gratia of ₹4 Lakh for Zoji La Avalanche Victims; Directs Immediate Assistance

LEH, March 28, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, expressed profound grief today over the tragic loss of seven lives following a devastating avalanche near the Zoji La pass yesterday.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Lieutenant Governor extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families affected by the natural disaster. To provide immediate relief, the UT administration has announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased individual, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting those struck by this calamity.

In addition to the financial aid, LG Saxena has issued strict directives to the district administration to ensure that all necessary support is provided to the grieving families and those injured in the incident.

Emergency teams and local authorities have been tasked with streamlining medical care and logistical assistance to mitigate the suffering of the victims.

The Zoji La pass, a critical but high-risk mountainous stretch, remains under close watch as the administration monitors weather conditions and coordinates ongoing relief efforts in the high-altitude region.
