J&K Weather Update: MeT Predicts Intermittent Rain and Snow Across Valley From March 28

SRINAGAR, MAR 27: The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a shift from generally dry conditions to a period of intermittent precipitation starting tomorrow. While March 27 is expected to remain largely dry with only brief spells of light rain in isolated areas by late afternoon, a more significant weather system is forecasted to take over from the night of March 28 through March 30.

During this window, most parts of the region will experience light to moderate rain, while the higher reaches are likely to receive fresh snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.

As the system lingers, March 31 will remain generally cloudy with scattered light rain or snow, followed by a period of unsettled weather through the first week of April. Specifically, between April 1 and April 7, the region is expected to see partly to generally cloudy skies with intermittent light rain at isolated to scattered locations.

Due to the possibility of moderate snow over the higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir and the risk of lightning and strong winds, authorities have urged residents and stakeholders to remain vigilant during the peak of the activity from late March 28 to the night of March 30.

In light of these conditions, the MeT department has issued a specific Advisory for the farming community and commuters. Farmers are strongly advised to suspend all agricultural and orchard operations on March 29 and 30 to avoid losses.

Additionally, travelers planning to move along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway or other hilly passes are urged to monitor official traffic advisories closely and plan their journeys according to road conditions and weather clearances.
