ANTF Kashmir Busts Heroin Racket in Srinagar; One Arrested from Barzulla
SRINAGAR, March 26, 2026 — The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir dealt a major blow to the local drug trafficking network on Thursday by recovering a significant quantity of heroin during a targeted raid in the Barzulla area of Srinagar.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding a criminal conspiracy, a specialized police team, under the direct supervision of the SSP ANTF J&K and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate of Chanapora, stormed a rented room in Ganai Mohalla.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 0.701 kilograms of a heroin-like substance that was reportedly intended for distribution among local youth and other active peddlers within the district.
During the high-stakes raid, authorities apprehended one of the primary suspects, identified as Mohammad Hussain Khan, a resident of Puthwari Nowgam, Handwara.
Preliminary questioning of the accused revealed that he, along with his associate Iftikhar Ahmad, had illegally acquired the contraband with the intent of selling it across Srinagar.
While Khan was caught on-site, his accomplice remains at large. In response to the recovery, the ANTF Kashmir has registered Case FIR No. 06/2026 under the relevant sections of the law, officially launching a comprehensive investigation to dismantle the entire supply chain involved in this racket.
The prompt and decisive action by the ANTF has been widely appreciated by the local community, who view the bust as a critical step in safeguarding the region’s youth from the scourge of addiction.
Law enforcement officials have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the absconding suspects and are conducting further raids based on the leads gathered.
The ANTF continues to urge the general public to stay vigilant and proactively share any information regarding narcotics-related activities, reaffirming their commitment to taking strict legal action against all offenders to ensure a drug-free society.
