J&K Weather Alert: Rain and Snow Predicted from March 26; MeT Issues Advisory for Farmers

SRINAGAR, Mar 26: The Meteorological (MeT) Centre in Srinagar has forecast a fresh wave of precipitation across Jammu and Kashmir starting today, March 26.

While the weather remained largely dry through the early hours, officials expect a shift toward light rain, snowfall, and gusty winds by the evening.

This initial activity is a precursor to a more intense weather phase anticipated between March 29 and 30, characterized by widespread light to moderate rain in the plains and significant snowfall over higher elevations.

Forecasters warn that the region may also experience thunder and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, which are likely to persist until the forenoon of March 31.

As the system moves through, March 31 is expected to see lingering clouds and brief spells of scattered rain or snow, followed by a transition to partly cloudy conditions from April 1 through April 4.

In response to the predicted moderate snowfall, lightning, and high-velocity winds—particularly during the peak of the storm from the night of March 28 to March 30—authorities have issued a formal advisory.

Farmers are strongly urged to suspend all agricultural operations on March 26 and again between March 29 and 31.

Additionally, travelers are advised to stay updated on traffic reports and plan their journeys cautiously to avoid disruptions caused by the inclement weather.
