Baramulla MP Er Rashid Donates Salary to Iran School Reconstruction and Urges India to Stand with Global South

New Delhi March 24, 2026 — During a powerful address on Finance Grants in the Lok Sabha, Baramulla Member of Parliament Er Rashid announced the donation of his one-month salary toward the reconstruction of a school in Iran where over 100 children recently lost their lives.

Raising the issue with deep emotion, the MP argued that humanity must transcend political boundaries when innocent lives are at stake. He highlighted the overwhelming solidarity shown by the people of Kashmir, who have contributed personal belongings to support the victims, and urged the Government of India to adopt a compassionate, balanced approach in global matters by standing firmly with those facing injustice.

Beyond international humanitarian aid, Er Rashid addressed critical regional and national concerns, specifically calling for a reassessment of the impact of the Indus Water Treaty on Jammu and Kashmir. He demanded a special compensation package to offset the massive economic losses the region has suffered due to water usage restrictions, which have left vast hydropower potential underutilized.

The MP also voiced strong opposition to the perceived erasure of historical figures like Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Allama Iqbal from educational or public narratives in Jammu, warning that selectively rewriting history is a disastrous pursuit that undermines the nation’s heritage.

Turning his focus to governance and accountability, the Baramulla representative called for the establishment of a high-level national commission to investigate disproportionate wealth accumulated by politicians, bureaucrats, and police officials over the last three decades. He argued that recovering “looted” public money and benami properties could drastically reduce economic inequality.

Additionally, he criticized the lack of visible Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) impact in backward and border areas like Baramulla. He urged major institutions, including NHPC and various banks, to ensure their funds are directed toward infrastructure and education in underserved zones, while reiterating his call for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
