New Delhi | March 24, 2026 — In a significant boost to international food security and South-South cooperation, India has officially dispatched 1,000 metric tons of rice to Sierra Leone.
The shipment is specifically designated to support the West African nation’s school midday meal scheme, ensuring nutritional security for thousands of students.
This humanitarian gesture was confirmed by Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), who characterized the move as a prime example of “Global South partnership in action.”
The initiative underscores India’s proactive role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on ending hunger and improving quality education.
By providing essential food supplies for school-aged children, India aims to strengthen its long-standing diplomatic and developmental ties with Sierra Leone.
This contribution aligns with New Delhi’s broader foreign policy commitment to act as a reliable partner for developing nations, sharing resources and expertise to foster collective growth across the Global South.
