LG Vinai Kumar Saxena Reviews Preparations for Inaugural Sindhu Mahakumbh at Sindhu Ghat

LEH, March 24, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena conducted an on-site inspection of Sindhu Ghat today to oversee the final preparations for the upcoming First Sindhu Mahakumbh.

Emphasizing the significance of the event for Ladakh’s spiritual and tourism landscape, the Lieutenant Governor called for a world-class experience for the influx of pilgrims and tourists.

To enhance the venue’s visual appeal, he suggested immediate aesthetic upgrades, such as lining approach routes with large decorative pots featuring indigenous flowers to showcase the region’s natural beauty.

During the visit, Saxena issued a series of directives for a comprehensive makeover of the site, including the immediate removal of debris, the restoration of the Ghat, and the landscaping of the riverfront. He specifically tasked departments with sprucing up approach roads, trimming overgrown shrubs, and constructing new footpaths to ensure visitor safety and convenience

. “Well-planned development and environmental preservation are the twin pillars required to strengthen tourism while improving the quality of life for the people of Ladakh,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked, stressing that all civic infrastructure must meet high standards of quality without compromising the area’s delicate ecological balance.

Beyond infrastructure, the LG prioritized public amenities, mandating the provision of clean drinking water, high-quality lighting, and rigorous sanitation protocols. He instructed officials to conduct regular cleaning of the riverbanks to maintain the sanctity of the site.

Accompanied by high-ranking officials, including DGP Ladakh Mukesh Singh and Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk, Saxena concluded the visit by ordering continuous monitoring of the works to ensure the Sindhu Mahakumbh remains a memorable and seamless experience for all participants.
