Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Heroin Racket in Amritsar; 5 Kg Contraband Seized

AMRITSAR, March 23, 2026 — In a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Amritsar Police has successfully dismantled a major narcotics smuggling module.

During a targeted operation, security forces apprehended two suspects and recovered 5 Kilograms of high-grade heroin, marking a substantial breakthrough in the ongoing mission to eliminate the drug menace in the border state.

Preliminary investigations have exposed a sophisticated smuggling web with deep-rooted international connections. The arrested individuals are allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based smuggler and a foreign-based handler who orchestrated the cross-border consignments.

This module was reportedly responsible for managing the logistics of illegal shipments entering Indian territory, highlighting the persistent challenges of narco-terrorism along the international border.

Following the seizure, a formal case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar. As the investigation deepens, authorities are working to map the entire distribution network and identify local associates involved in the trade.

Punjab Police officials stated that more arrests are likely in the coming days as they continue their relentless campaign to ensure a drug-free and safe environment for the citizens of Punjab.
