Udhampur Police Solve Major Theft Case: Three Arrested with Stolen Aluminium Conductors

Udhampur March 22, 2026: In a swift and successful operation, the Udhampur Police have cracked a high-profile theft case involving the Power Development Department (PDD), leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of a significant quantity of stolen property.

The investigation began following a formal complaint lodged by Sukhdev Sharma, a government contractor for the PDD, after a large amount of aluminium electricity wire was stolen from the Receiving Station near Panama Chowk, Kud, during the night of March 17–18.

In response, Police Station Kud registered FIR No. 10/2026 under sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to initiate a formal probe into the incident.Utilizing a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, a specialized police team rounded up several suspects, eventually narrowing the investigation down to three key figures.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sourab Sharma, a resident of Dharmthal Narsoo; Sanjay Kumar from Sukater Kud; and Vijay Kumar, residing in the Housing Colony of Udhampur. During intensive questioning, all three suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, leading police to a hidden stash in Sukater Kud.

The operation resulted in the recovery of approximately 400 kg of aluminium conductor wire, valued at an estimated ₹1,20,000. This recovery is a significant win for local infrastructure security, as the theft of such materials often leads to power disruptions and financial losses for the state.

While the primary suspects are now in custody and the stolen property has been secured, the Udhampur Police have stated that further investigations are underway to determine if the group is linked to any other organized theft rackets in the region.
