CISF Thwarts ₹2 Crore Drug Smuggling Attempt at Mumbai Airport; Airport Loader Apprehended
MUMBAI – March 21, 2026In a major blow to narcotics trafficking at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intercepted a significant consignment of high-grade contraband on March 20, 2026.
The incident unfolded when an airport loader was stopped by on-duty CISF personnel while attempting to exit the terminal building with a suspicious backpack.
During a routine security screening using the X-BIS (X-ray Baggage Inspection System), vigilant officers noticed anomalies in the bag’s contents, prompting an immediate and thorough physical inspection.
The high-tech surveillance and the quick reflexes of the security team ensured that the breach was contained before the individual could leave the high-security premises.
Upon opening the backpack, authorities discovered approximately 2 kilograms of “Hydroponic Weed,” a potent and expensive variety of cannabis.
The matter was immediately escalated to the Customs Department, which confirmed the nature of the substance and estimated its market value at nearly ₹2 crore.
The accused individual, along with the seized narcotics, was promptly handed over to Customs officials for further interrogation and legal proceedings under the NDPS Act.
This successful operation highlights the critical role of the CISF in safeguarding national assets and their unwavering alertness in identifying internal threats and sophisticated smuggling attempts within India’s busiest transit hubs.
