Punjab Police and BSF Foil Major Cross-Border Heroin Smuggling Attempt in Fazilka
FAZILKA, March 21, 2026 — In a coordinated high-stakes operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Ferozepur and the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a major narco-smuggling attempt near the International Border in Punjab.
Acting on precise intelligence, security forces intercepted a cross-border intrusion near Border Outpost (BOP) GG-2 in Village Mahtam Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sadar Fazilka. The joint operation resulted in the recovery of 6.5 kg of high-grade heroin, marking a significant blow to the trans-border drug trafficking networks operating from Pakistan.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Pakistan-based smugglers crossed the zero-line under the cover of darkness, attempting to push the narcotics shipment through the border fence into Indian territory.
Upon detecting the suspicious movement, alert BSF troops opened fire to deter the intruders, forcing them to retreat. A meticulous search of the area conducted immediately after the skirmish led to the discovery of the concealed contraband.
The Punjab Police has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward narco-terrorism, emphasizing that constant vigil and inter-agency cooperation remain the primary defense against cross-border smuggling efforts.
