Eid-ul-Fitr 2026: Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association Announces Saturday as First Day of Eid
SRINAGAR, March 19, 2026 — The All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association (AJKSA) has officially announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the region on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Following a meeting of the Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee, the association confirmed that the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday evening due to persistent overcast and cloudy weather conditions across the Kashmir Valley.
Furthermore, the committee reported that no reliable (Shar’i) testimonies of a moon sighting were received from any other part of India, leading to the conclusion that the month of Ramadan will complete its 30-day cycle.
In a formal statement issued by the association’s president, Molvi Imran Ansari, it was clarified that in accordance with Shia Islamic guidelines, Friday, March 20, will be observed as a day of fasting (the 30th of Ramadan) rather than the festival of Eid.
The announcement, released from the association’s headquarters at Darul Jawad, Qammarwari, emphasizes the necessity of a physical or verified sighting to conclude the holy month.
Consequently, the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers and celebrations will commence on Saturday, marking the beginning of the month of Shawwal for the community.
