GMC Srinagar Biochemistry Lab Achieves Prestigious NABL Accreditation for Global Diagnostic Standards
SRINAGAR, March 19, 2026 — In a landmark achievement for healthcare in the Union Territory, the Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratory at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and its associated SMHS Hospital has secured formal accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
This certification, granted under the rigorous international ISO 15189:2022 standards, validates the laboratory’s technical competence and commitment to delivering highly accurate diagnostic services. Valid until 2030, the accreditation covers an extensive array of routine and specialized investigations, including advanced hormone assays, tumor markers, lipid profiles, and renal function tests, all of which now meet globally recognized benchmarks for quality.
The facility stands out as the first large-scale government sector laboratory in Jammu & Kashmir to achieve this level of accreditation, reflecting a major leap in regional medical infrastructure.
Equipped with state-of-the-art robotic interventions and fully automated machinery, the lab currently manages an impressive volume of approximately 30 lakh tests annually.
Principal and Dean Iffat Hassan, alongside Biochemistry Department Head Sabiya Majid, commended the dedicated efforts of the faculty and technical staff in establishing this high-efficiency system.
