Chaitra Navratra 2026: Shat Chandi Maha Yagya Commences at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine
KATRA, March 19, 2026 — The sacred nine-day festival of Chaitra Navratra began today at the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi with the commencement of the Shat Chandi Maha Yagya.
Organized by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), the ritual is being performed to seek divine blessings for global peace and prosperity.
The Yagya, which was attended by SMVDSB Chief Executive Officer Sachin Kumar Vaishya and a large gathering of devotees, will continue throughout the Navratra period, culminating in the Purna Ahuti on Mahanavami, March 26.
For the benefit of global devotees, the spiritual proceedings are being telecast live daily on MH1 Shradha, allowing millions to participate virtually in the sacred ceremonies.
Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who serves as the Chairman of the SMVDSB, extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.
The Bhawan, Atka, and the trekking route from Katra have been elaborately decorated with vibrant lighting and a grand display of indigenous and exotic flowers and fruits. To ensure a seamless pilgrimage, the board has guaranteed 24/7 water and power supplies, enhanced sanitation, and the availability of specialized fasting food at various Bhojanalayas.
Notable additions this year include the dedication of a new Sadhna Kaksh (Meditation Hall) and complimentary battery car and pony services for Divyang (specially-abled) pilgrims.
With daily devotional performances by acclaimed artists during the Atka Arti, the Shrine Board remains dedicated to providing a spiritually enriching and safe experience for all visitors during this auspicious Period.
