Assam Rifles Seizes Foreign-Origin Cigarettes Worth ₹39 Lakhs in Champhai, Mizoram

CHAMPHAI, MIZORAM — March 15, 2026 — In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Champhai Police, successfully seized a massive consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes in the Jail Veng area of Champhai District.

Following a tip-off, security forces launched a detailed search operation that led to the recovery of 30 cases of high-end contraband. The seized items included various flavors and brands, specifically six cases of XSO Black Fruits Apple Mint, 17 cases of XSO Black Fruits Strawberry, two cases of ORIS Silver, and five cases of Farstar cigarettes, with a combined market value estimated at approximately ₹39 Lakhs.

During the operation, two individuals, identified as R Lalnunhlima and Benzamin LN Liana, were apprehended for their involvement in the smuggling racket. This successful seizure underscores the relentless commitment of the Assam Rifles to curb the illegal trade of contraband along the border regions.
