INS Trikand Bolsters Maritime Ties with Successful Port Call in Mauritius for 58th National Day

PORT LOUIS, MAURITIUS — March 14, 2026 — Indian Naval Ship (INS) Trikand concluded a significant port visit to Port Louis on March 13, 2026, reinforcing the deep-rooted maritime partnership between India and Mauritius.

A highlight of the visit was the ship’s participation in the 58th Mauritius National Day Parade on March 12 at Champ de Mars. Carrying forward a long-standing tradition, the Indian Navy contributed a marching contingent, a naval band, and an integral helicopter for the ceremonial fly-past.

During the stay, Commanding Officer Sachin Kulkarni held high-level meetings with Commissioner of Police Rampersad Sooroojebally and the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, to discuss regional security and cooperation.

The visit served as a platform for both diplomatic and community engagement. INS Trikand hosted a cultural evening on board, graced by Mahend Gungapersad, Mauritius’ Minister of Education and Human Resources, alongside other senior government officials. Beyond social events, the ship prioritized professional development by conducting specialized training capsules for the Mauritius National Coast Guard.

These sessions focused on practical watchkeeping, firefighting, and damage control. The vessel also welcomed over 500 members of the public during an open-house event, fostering goodwill and transparency within the local community.

As the deployment drew to a close, INS Trikand engaged in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) and joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance alongside CGS Valiant.

This operational phase underscored the collaborative effort to secure regional waters, aligning perfectly with India’s MAHASAGAR vision—which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. This successful mission reaffirms the commitment of both nations to maintaining a safe and prosperous maritime environment in the Indian Ocean.
