Petroleum Ministry Issues Urgent Safety Warning Against Loose Fuel Storage; Suspends Tamil Nadu Petrol Pump

NEW DELHI, March 14, 2026 — The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a critical safety advisory to citizens nationwide, emphasizing the dangers of improper fuel handling.

This directive comes following a high-risk incident at a retail outlet in Tamil Nadu, where petrol was reportedly being dispensed into loose, unauthorized containers.

In a swift response to this safety breach, the Ministry has suspended the operations of the concerned petrol pump and initiated strict legal action.

Authorities have reassured the public that there is adequate availability of petrol and diesel across all pumps in the country, urging consumers to avoid panic buying or storing fuel in inappropriate containers, which poses severe fire and explosion risks.

Furthermore, all retail outlets and dealers have been issued a stern warning to strictly adhere to established safety guidelines during fuel dispensation, with the Ministry promising zero tolerance for future violations.
