Indian COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi and Ambassador-Designate Puneet Agrawal Discuss Strengthening India-Thailand Defence Ties

NEW DELHI, March 13, 2026: In a strategic move to bolster maritime and regional security, Puneet Agrawal, the Ambassador-Designate of India to the Kingdom of Thailand, called on General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), to discuss the evolving landscape of bilateral relations.

The high-level interaction focused on deepening India–Thailand defence ties, with a specific emphasis on enhancing military-to-military engagement to meet contemporary security challenges. Both leaders underscored the importance of expanding the scope of the strategic partnership through robust training exchanges and specialized professional interactions, ensuring that both nations benefit from shared expertise and operational synergy.

The meeting highlights India’s continued “Act East” policy, aiming to transform traditional diplomatic relations into a more comprehensive security framework. By prioritizing collaborative training programs and frequent military dialogues, India and Thailand are set to increase their interoperability in the Indo-Pacific region.
