Gadkari Announces Completion of ₹171 Crore Safety Projects on J&K’s NH-44 Highway

JAMMU March 13, 2026 — In a major boost to regional infrastructure, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the successful completion of critical safety and commuter facility projects along the NH-44 in Jammu and Kashmir, totaling an investment of approximately ₹171.25 crore.

The extensive works specifically targeted high-risk “blackspots” and accident-prone zones, including SIDCO Chowk and the Gole Mela–Sangoor stretch.

To further streamline transit, the Ministry overseen the construction of a Light Vehicle Underpass (LVUP) complete with service roads at Samba, alongside the development of premium modern wayside amenities at Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama, ensuring a more comfortable journey for long-distance travelers. The project focused heavily on optimizing road geometry and mitigating high-conflict traffic points that previously plagued the highway.

By implementing these strategic interventions, the government has significantly improved traffic circulation and enabled safer turning movements for vehicles, directly addressing the safety concerns of local commuters and tourists alike.

These upgrades, under the #PragatiKaHighway and #GatiShakti initiatives, are expected to drastically reduce congestion and lower the rate of road mishaps on this vital national artery. The completion of these works marks another milestone in the mission to provide a world-class, secure, and efficient road network across the Union Territory.
