JKCA Scam: Srinagar Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Farooq Abdullah After Appearance Failure
SRINAGAR, March 12, 2026: In a major legal setback for the National Conference president, a local court in Srinagar today issued a non-bailable warrant against former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) money laundering case.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Tabassum passed the order after Abdullah failed to appear before the court either in person or through virtual mode. Despite a plea from his legal team seeking an exemption from personal appearance, the court rejected the application, citing the necessity of the accused’s presence during the proceedings of the long-standing financial scandal.
The court’s crackdown extended to other co-accused in the case as well. Magistrate Tabassum also dismissed an exemption application filed by Manzoor Gazanfar Ali, subsequently issuing a non-bailable warrant against him for his absence.
Emphasizing the gravity of the judicial process, the court stated that appropriate legal orders would follow should any accused continue to evade appearance.
The JKCA scam, which involves allegations of misappropriating several crores of rupees meant for the development of cricket in the region, has seen intensified legal scrutiny over the past few years. The case has now been listed for its next hearing on March 30, 2026.
