Attempted Attack on Farooq Abdullah in Jammu: NC Leader Unharmed, Deputy CM sustained minor injuries in Hotel Firing
JAMMU, March 11, 2026 – A major security breach occurred today at Hotel Royal Park in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu when an armed assailant opened fire during a high-profile wedding ceremony attended by top political leaders.
National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped the attack and is reported to be completely safe. Dr. Abdullah had been attending the wedding of a party worker’s son for about an hour; the gunfire erupted just as he was exiting the banquet hall.
While Dr. Abdullah was unhurt, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who was also in attendance, sustained minor injuries from weapon splinters and was immediately rushed for medical assistance.
Following the shooting, which triggered chaos and panic among the guests, the Jammu and Kashmir Police acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect.
The assailant, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Jammu, had reportedly attempted to hide in nearby bushes after firing the shots but was overpowered and taken into custody by security forces.
Preliminary investigations are underway as authorities interrogate Jamwal to determine the motive behind the targeted attack.
Police officials have cordoned off the area and stated that a high-level probe is active to uncover the full sequence of events and any potential lapses in the security detail provided for the VVIPs.
