Defence Forces Vision 2047: Rajnath Singh Unveils Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military

NEW DELHI, March 10, 2026 — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh officially released the landmark document ‘Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military’ during a high-level event at South Block today.

Articulated by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, this comprehensive blueprint serves as a strategic manual to transform India’s armed forces into a modern, integrated, and technologically advanced fighting force.

The vision is directly aligned with the national aspiration of achieving Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by the centenary of the nation’s independence in 2047.The document outlines a calibrated transition toward an integrated, multi-domain, and agile force capable of deterring adversaries across the full spectrum of modern conflict.

Central to this transformation is a heightened emphasis on jointness and synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, ensuring seamless coordination in operational planning and capability development.

By addressing evolving geostrategic and security shifts, the roadmap prepares the military to protect India’s expanding strategic interests amid rapidly changing global dynamics.A primary pillar of Vision 2047 is the relentless pursuit of Aatmanirbharta (Self-reliance) in defense. The roadmap prioritizes the development of indigenous technologies and the strengthening of domestic manufacturing to reduce foreign dependencies.

Furthermore, the document highlights the integration of niche technologies, innovation, and modern training frameworks to ensure the military remains adaptable to the complexities of future warfare. This structured approach includes clearly defined short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals to build a world-class defense apparatus.

Recognizing that modern security transcends the battlefield, the vision underscores a whole-of-nation approach, blending military prowess with diplomatic, economic, and technological strength.

The release ceremony was attended by top military leadership, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh.

Together, they reaffirmed the commitment to building a globally respected and combat-ready military for a resilient India.
