Jammu and Kashmir Weather Alert: Widespread Heavy Rain and Snow Forecasted from March 9

SRINAGAR, March 07, 2026 — Residents and travelers in Jammu and Kashmir are advised to prepare for a significant weather shift as a moderate to strong intensity Western Disturbance is slated to impact the region starting the night of March 9 through March 12.

According to the latest forecast, this system is expected to bring widespread heavy rain and snow across the Union Territory. Higher reaches, including the Sonamarg-Zojila axis, Sinthan Top, Peer ki Gali, Razdan Top, Sadhna Top, and Gurez Valley, are on high alert for heavy snowfall, with extreme higher altitudes likely to see very heavy snow depths.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir plains are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, with the highest levels of activity anticipated in North Kashmir.

Weather experts predict the peak of this atmospheric disturbance will occur during the evenings of March 10 and March 12, potentially affecting local transport and daily routines.
