ADDC Shopian Distributes Ice Boxes to Boost Fisheries Sector Under JKCIP Initiative
SHOPIAN, March 4, 2026 — In a major effort to modernize the local fisheries sector and bolster the livelihoods of fish farmers, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, distributed 37 high-quality ice boxes to departmental beneficiaries at the Mini Secretariat today.
This distribution, carried out under the Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement Project (JKCIP), is specifically designed to address the challenges of post-harvest management by providing essential tools for the proper preservation and hygienic transportation of fish.
By maintaining the cold chain, these ice boxes will help reduce spoilage, ensure higher product quality for consumers, and ultimately fetch better market prices for local fishermen.
During the event, Dr. Lone highlighted the administration’s commitment to empowering the fishing community through modern infrastructure and sustainable government support, noting that such interventions are crucial for doubling farmer incomes.
The initiative was well-received by the beneficiaries, who expressed their gratitude to the district administration and the Fisheries Department, represented by Inspector Sharif Ahmed, for providing timely resources to secure their economic future.
