Health Minister Sakeena Itoo Launches Advanced HDU at Kulgam District Hospital to Revolutionize Critical Care

KULGAM, FEBRUARY 28 :- In a major boost to the healthcare infrastructure of South Kashmir, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, officially inaugurated the state-of-the-art High Dependency Unit (HDU) at District Hospital Kulgam on February 28, 2026.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam and Chief Medical Officer Kulgam, the Minister reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah-led Government’s unwavering commitment to decentralizing quality medical services and enhancing grassroots-level healthcare.

This landmark facility is designed to serve as a critical bridge between Intensive Care Units (ICU) and general wards, ensuring that patients requiring specialized monitoring for severe infections, respiratory distress, cardiac ailments, and obstetric complications receive immediate, life-saving intervention without the need for risky referrals to tertiary institutions in Srinagar.

The newly operational HDU is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, including multipara monitors, centralized oxygen supply, infusion pumps, defibrillators, and advanced emergency resuscitation equipment.

During her visit, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized that the unit is staffed by a dedicated team of trained medical officers and nursing personnel providing round-the-clock monitoring. Beyond the technical rollout, the Minister spent time interacting with doctors, paramedics, and patients to gather direct feedback on service delivery.

She highlighted that upgrading rural and semi-urban healthcare remains the administration’s top priority, ensuring that modern medical facilities are accessible to every citizen near their vicinity, thereby significantly improving patient safety and outcomes across the Kulgam district.
