Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Announces ₹2 Crore Reward and Government Jobs for Jammu & Kashmir’s Historic Ranji Trophy Champions
SRINAGAR / HUBBALLI February 28 – In a grand gesture to celebrate the region’s historic sporting milestone, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially announced a massive ₹2 crore cash reward for the players and support staff of the Jammu & Kashmir cricket team following their maiden Ranji Trophy triumph.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after J&K’s emphatic victory over eight-time champions Karnataka, the Chief Minister hailed the win as a “watershed moment” that has filled the entire Union Territory with unparalleled pride and inspiration.
Beyond the financial incentive, the Office of the Chief Minister confirmed that the victorious squad members will be entitled to gazetted and non-gazetted government appointments under the recently notified rules designed to reward outstanding sportspersons.
By securing the title on Karnataka’s home turf, the J&K team has not only ended a 67-year wait for domestic cricket’s top prize but has also secured their professional futures, as the government moves to institutionalize support for local athletes who bring national glory to the region.
