Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Smuggling Racket: 10 Arrested with Heroin and Foreign Weapons
AMRITSAR, Feb 28, 2026 — In a significant blow to transnational crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police successfully dismantled two major organized cross-border smuggling modules, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals involved in the trafficking of narcotics and illegal firearms.
During the high-stakes operation, law enforcement officials recovered a substantial cache including 5.438 kg of heroin, three high-end sophisticated pistols—specifically a Glock 9mm, a Zigana 9mm, and a .32 bore—along side 34 live cartridges and ₹4,500 in drug proceeds. Preliminary investigations have uncovered a digital trail linking the accused to Pakistan-based smugglers via various social media platforms, which served as the primary coordination hubs for infiltrating Indian territory.
These modules operated through a sophisticated distribution network designed to move contraband deep into the state. In response, multiple FIRs have been filed under the NDPS Act and Arms Act as investigators work to trace the broader financial and logistical “forward and backward linkages” to completely uproot the network. This crackdown reaffirms the Punjab Police’s unwavering zero-tolerance stance against the influx of drugs and illegal weaponry.
