CHANDEL, February 26, 2026 — Marking more than four decades of an enduring legacy of valor, the Assam Rifles organized a poignant wreath-laying ceremony at Sehlon in the Chandel District of Manipur to honor the memory of Naik (Late) Tek Bahadur Thapa, Kirti Chakra (Posthumous).
The event, held on February 25, 2026, brought together high-ranking officials and personnel to pay homage to a soldier whose indomitable courage remains a cornerstone of the force’s history.
Conducted with full military honors, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by the “Sentinels of the North East” in the pursuit of national security. The tribute specifically commemorated the anniversary of the 1983 counter-insurgency operations in Aizawl, Mizoram, where Naik Thapa displayed extraordinary bravery before laying down his life in the line of duty.
By gathering at the Sehlon memorial, the Assam Rifles reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to never forgetting their fallen heroes. This act of remembrance not only honors the individual sacrifice of a Kirti Chakra recipient but also reinforces the unit’s “Mission First” ethos, ensuring that the stories of selfless service continue to inspire the modern ranks stationed across the sensitive border regions of Manipur and beyond.
