National Conference Vows Action as ST Delegation Raises Urgent Housing and Power Concerns in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, February 26, 2026 — A high-level delegation from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, led by Haji Saif Ali Kasana, President of the Gujjar Bakkarwal Conference, met with National Conference (NC) District President Sunil Verma and Additional Spokesperson Akash Verma to demand immediate government intervention for pressing communal grievances.

The delegation highlighted a critical delay in the allocation of 5 Marlas of land promised to families displaced by recent floods, alongside a formal request for the inclusion of vulnerable ST members under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to ensure housing security.

Addressing the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, the community also expressed deep concern over scheduled power cuts during Iftar and Suhoor; in a swift response, Sunil Verma contacted the electricity department on the spot to negotiate a rescheduled load-shedding timetable.

Reaffirming the National Conference’s commitment to the ST community, Verma pledged to escalate the land compensation and housing issues directly to the Chief Minister, promising a relentless pursuit of “rightful compensation” and infrastructure stability to foster self-reliance among the affected families.
